The game began with Rathkeale College's traditional Haka, whereby the 1st and 2nd XV joined together on the halfway line to experience an invigorating performance. Within the first five minutes of the match, our opposition represented their true Kiwi spirit as they brought the game to Coopers. However, our defensive line held up strong, which eventually led to a knock on and the regaining of possession. The points were soon on the board, as the away team were awarded a penalty just within the 22 metre line. At this stage, it was evenly matched, with most of the game evolving around the breakdown area. Shortly after, sublime work from young prospect, Zak Kiloran, provided the hungry Coopers with retention of the ball. Although the hard work was far from over as classy and composed hands helped feed the ball into the path of in-form Zac Levin, who weaved in and out of his opposite man to finish off the try. 0-10 to the men in blue. After the kick-off took place, a slight lack in discipline between both sides saw a yellow card awarded to 1st try scorer, Levin and the captain of Rathkeale College. A penalty conversion brought the home team back to a 7 point differentiation, 3-10. By every second, the game was turning into a heated cauldron. Coopers managed to signify their maturity and desire to play the game of rugby in a sensible fashion. Another penalty had been awarded to the English outlet, which was slotted by Morgan. Coopers went 10 points ahead, 3-13. Our continuous pressurising performance led to a fantastic interception from the other wingman, Liam Batty, who plucked the ball from the fullback's pass and finished in style. Once again, the try was converted by the reliant Tom Morgan, 3-20. Yet again, the animalistic-like captain, Russell Draper, came up against an aggressive tussle in the air, but still continued to have the ball in his grasp when collapsing to the ground. From this, the Locke of Rathkeale received a yellow card for malicious behaviour. With an extra man to Coopers' side, it gave the boys a undeniable feeling of positivity going into the interval. A severe level of adrenaline may have taken its toll on Batty, who witnessed a sin-bin towards the end of the first half. A few alterations were made going into the second half, with the machine, Ed Stannard, making his return after 3 months of being sidelined due to a dislocated shoulder. He replaced Batley (No.6) whilst Brabham-Neil came on for Hyde (No.7). A long duration of the second half comprised of endless defensive work from Coopers, who were eventually broken as the captain (No.12) of Rathkeale College found a gap to run into, leaving himself with around 30 metres to cooly step Morgan at fullback, 10-20. Tackle after tackle, it was undoubtedly one of the best performances by the team throughout the 2014/15 season. It came to the last play of the game, where fatigue kicked in and the lads failed to keep the opposition out. The game finished 15-20.
